Gymnasium Pause Policy

Edited

You can pause your membership if you need time away from training. Pausing gives you a temporary break from payments and access, without ending your membership. This policy explains when and how you can pause, and what happens during the pause period.

Reasons You Can Pause

You may pause your membership for the following reasons:

  • Pregnancy, maternity or paternity

  • Medical or injury

  • Redundancy

  • Earned loyalty pauses (if eligible – details are sent annually by email)

Pauses are not available for travel or convenience.

Evidence and Proof

  • We may ask you to provide proof that supports the reason for your pause. This needs to be satisfactory to us before the pause is approved.

Medical or Illness Pauses

  • If you wish to pause due to injury or illness:

    • Book a short appointment with a coach first. We will discuss whether safe training adaptations are an option

    • If a pause is needed, the minimum pause length is 4 weeks and the maximum is 6 weeks

    • Before returning to training, you must provide a written Fit to Return confirming you are fit to resume, from a GP, consultant, physio or other treating medical professional

    • If you cannot provide this certificate, the pause will be treated as a cancellation of membership. This would reset any earned loyalty benefits linked to continuous membership

How to Request a Pause

  • All pause requests must be emailed to support@gymnasium.fit or your gym location email gymname@gymnasium.fit

  • If relevant, attach the supporting evidence requested (for example, a doctor’s certificate).

  • Pauses cannot be backdated. This is a limit of the functionality of the Gymnasium App. If approved, your pause will begin from the date we receive your email request.

What Happens During a Pause

  • Any continuous membership term and loyalty benefits are retained during the pause but not accrued

  • Your membership place will be retained and held for you

  • You will not be charged membership fees while paused

  • You cannot attend classes or use the gym

  • Pausing is not the same as ending your membership

  • If you use Class Packs, we will extend the expiry by the number of full calendar months paused

  • If membership prices change during your pause, the new price will apply when your membership resumes

Returning From a Pause

  • Your membership will restart on the date your pause ends, or earlier if you contact us to resume sooner

  • If a doctor’s certificate is required (for injury or medical pauses), this must be provided before the membership restarts

Pauses Longer Than 6 Weeks

  • If your pause lasts longer than 6 weeks, your membership will move onto a long-term pause. This releases your current membership

  • When you return, you may need to restart on a different membership option, depending on availability and waitlists

  • Terms for returning after a long-term pause are the same for short-term pauses

Access While Paused

  • You cannot book classes or use Gymnasium facilities during a pause.

FAQs

1. What reasons allow me to pause my membership?

You can pause for pregnancy, maternity or paternity leave, medical reasons or injury, redundancy, or if you have earned loyalty travel pause benefits. Pauses are not available for general travel or convenience.

 2. How do I request a pause?

Email Member Support at support@gymnasium.fit or your home gym’s location email (gymname@gymnasium.fit). Attach any supporting evidence if relevant. Pauses cannot be backdated — they start from the date we receive your request.

 3. Will I be charged during my pause?

No. You won’t be charged membership fees while your pause is active.

 4. Can I still attend classes while paused?

No. You cannot book classes or use Gymnasium facilities during a pause.

 5. Will my membership place be held?

Yes — for short-term pauses (up to 6 weeks), your spot is held. For longer pauses, your membership is released but you retain the right to rejoin within the agreed period.

 6. What happens to my loyalty benefits during a pause?

Loyalty benefits are retained during a pause. On long-term pauses they are retained but not accrued.

 7. What happens if membership prices change while I’m paused?

The new price will apply when your membership resumes.

 8. What is a Fit to Return (FTR) and when do I need one?

A Fit to Return is a written note from a GP, consultant, physio, or other treating health professional confirming you’re safe to resume training. It’s required before reactivating after a medical or injury pause. Without it, the pause may be treated as a cancellation, which would reset any loyalty benefits.

 9. What is the minimum and maximum pause length for injury?

The minimum is 4 weeks and the maximum is 6 weeks for a short-term injury pause. For longer recoveries, a long-term pause of up to 6 months is available, though this releases your membership spot.

 10. What if my pause needs to be longer than 6 weeks?

Your membership will move to a long-term pause, which releases your current spot. When you’re ready to return, you can rejoin — though you may need to go on a waitlist depending on availability.
